Darth Maul was an evil individual forged by the hateful energies of the dark side. A creature of pure evil, Maul had no character of his own other than to carry out the wishes of his master Darth Sidious. His single goal was to take vengeance on the Jedi.
The Republic first became aware of Maul as a mysterious attacker with no name. While Qui-Gon Jinn was escorting the fugitive Queen Amidala from Tatooine to Coruscant, Darth Maul came down upon them from above. Maul's attack was never ending as he delivered strike after strike against the accomplished Jedi Master.
Maul was later sent by Darth Sidious to track down and capture Queen Amidala in an attempt to stop her from requesting help from the Senate for her people. Maul scouted the galaxy for the queen and reported his findings to his master faithfully. When Amidala returned to Naboo, Maul was there waiting and the events to follow would change the Jedi Order forever.
